Residents Run 84 Miles for Children with Cancer

LAST week a team of our dedicated residents travelled the length of Cornwall on equipment at Snap Fitness St Austell to raise money for children with cancer.

They completed 84 miles – over three marathons – on the equipment which is the distance from the Tamar Bridge to Land’s End.

The event took place over 12 hours and was a part of the Chester’s Challenge that we are running.

The appeal is in aid of the family of a 2-year-old boy from Cornwall called Chester who has been diagnosed with spinal astrocytoma and is undergoing 18 months of chemotherapy.

Chester is the grandson of a member of staff here at Harbour, Claire Tregunna, who describes him as “the bravest, cheekiest little trooper who keeps us all on our toes.”

“On the darker days when Chester is feeling particularly unwell the feeling of being powerless can be overwhelming for us grandparents, but that little family battles on through every day to try and make life as normal as possible for their two boys.”

At the request of the family the money will be split between themselves and the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group.

Snap Fitness were incredibly generous and offered the use of their equipment for the day to our runners, and they were not the only members of the community who gave their support to the event.

Santander St Austell pledged to match fund the money raised through the challenge and even sent staff members along on the day to join residents in running part of the distance.

Baker Tom’s also got involved by donating cakes to keep the team going and help raise money.

Adam, one of our residents, was there for the whole event from 8am when the team started running until after 7pm when they reached their target.

He said: “It was such a good event and for a really worthy cause.

“We were running in pairs so we were always encouraging each other to keep going – it was really good for team building.

“Snap Fitness were amazing, and they even gave us free passes to the gym afterwards so I can go for a whole day.”

It was such a brilliant day, and we were so glad to be able to raise money for such an important cause. The total amount raised will be announced when we have the final figure.

There is still time to donate through this link!
