Born in Basingstoke in Hampshire, after finishing his full time education Hugh began his working life as a cartographer with the Forestry Commission before working for the Thames Water Authority in London, rising to become Chief Draughtsman. Hugh and his wife Veronica moved to Shropshire in 1987 and opened a care home for the elderly which they managed for the next 20 years. During that time Hugh was a director with the British Federation of Care Home Proprietors, English Care and the Shropshire Partners in Care Association.
Following the sale of their care home, Hugh and his wife retired to Cornwall and in 2010 Hugh became a volunteer with Cosgarne Hall and a trustee / director with the charity in 2011 where he is currently the Finance Director.
Hugh has been a scout leader for more than 30 years and each year he still attends his former Shropshire scout group’s annual camp. He has an interest in local history and is currently the Hon Treasurer of the Cornwall Association of Local Historians.
