Residents at Harbour Housing were lucky enough to be treated to a professionally cooked meal on Christmas Day.
On 25th December 2020 staff from the Portuguese Restaurant Newquay gave up their day to come and cook for those who would be staying with us over the Christmas period.
We would normally have hosted a big week of parties for our residents over the festive season with volunteers and staff alike coming together to cook for beneficiaries, but unfortunately that was not safe to do this year.
It was the Portuguese Restaurant staff who came to us with a solution, offering their services for the day free of charge to ensure that our residents were able to celebrate the occasion in style.
From there the whole event came together, with turkeys kindly donated from South Torfrey Farm, vegetables from the restaurant themselves and delivery coordination in the form of new trustee and long-time volunteer Kevin Prinsloo.
All in all 51 meals were delivered to residents at Cosgarne Hall which would not have been possible without the generosity and thoughtfulness of our friends at the Portuguese Restaurant.
We are always grateful fo the support of our community, and this event has demonstrated just how much that support matters, and what a big difference can be made by a few people deciding to reach out and help others.
Explaining their decision, staff from the restaurant said: “We know how lucky we are and want to do what we can to help.”
